The Dakota County Parks Department in Dakota County, Minnesota hired Trail Design Specialists to translate their new trail’s master plan into a sustainable trail system on the ground. The project took place in three phases over the course of three years. Trail Design Specialists overcame the concern of balancing summer and winter trail use while maintaining sustainability, trail challenges and user enjoyment on the dual-purpose trails. Separate horse, bike, and hiking trails doubled as snowshoe, traditional cross country skiing, and skate skiing trails.
A homeowner near Frankfort, Kentucky engaged Trail Design Specialists to design and build this trail. It serves as a private getaway for a family who enjoys hiking on high quality trails but doesn’t want to spend a lot of time maintaining the trail. The trail winds its way through scenic and somewhat rocky terrain and overlooks two creeks that meander through the property. While planning and constructing this trail, our team encountered an abundant variety of wildlife in the area.
Moore Cove is a one of three trails in a ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) contract we completed for the USFS. The trail located in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, NC is considered the most popular trail in forest due to it's short length (1/2 mile), it's access from 276, and the beautiful 60' waterfall at the end of the trail. We were contracted to improve the trail and bring it up to class 3 FS trail standards.
The Black Mountain Trail reconstruction project was one of three trails on an ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) for the USFS. This trail located in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, NC is used primarily as anlso off road cycling trail. Hiking is also allowed. The trail has always been considered a more difficult trail and we worked hard to maintain the delicate balance between sustainability and challenge. Most of this was managed by enhancing and developing rock features, banked turns, water features and guide structures.
This system, designed and constructed by us, is targeted specifically at the Mountain Bike community. Through a series of several loops, users will be provided with a variety of experiences ranging from beginner to advanced. The trail system even incorporates a few specifically designed challenge areas. The whole trail system is built on a peninsula extending out into Lake Chatuge. The views of the lake from the trail are set against a backdrop of green mountains.
